The project "Adaptation" aims to explore the lives and experiences of individuals at Metzukei Dragot, an off-grid community located on the shores of the Dead Sea, one of the most challenging and inhospitable environments on Earth. By capturing the illusory nature of freedom within this community, the project seeks to reveal its many socio-cultural layers.
The camp itself is constructed from discarded hiking gear, reused objects, and handmade tools. Situated between an army checkpoint—a constant reminder of the present apartheid—and the Jordanian border on the other side of the lake, Metzukei Dragot exists within a dystopian landscape reminiscent of a prequel to Mad Max. Surrounding the community are sinkholes resulting from ongoing resource deterioration caused by the diversion of the Jordan River in the north and the mineral mining industry in the south.
